LibrePortal Backup Server
A vault for your backups. It pairs with your LibrePortal servers and pulls their encrypted backups over a private VPN, so your data has a safe copy somewhere else. Your data, your copies.
It is for anyone who runs LibrePortal and does not want the only copy of their backups on the machine that might fail. Put it on a second box at a friend's house, a cheap VPS or a spare computer.
What you get
- A safe second copy. If your server dies, its apps and data can be restored from here.
- One code to connect. Run
librebackup invite NAME, pass the code on, and the other server runslibreportal backupserver join. That is all. - Pairing in minutes. A short one-time code links a LibrePortal server to the vault. A new server can only be used after you approve it.
- Backups happen by themselves. The vault pulls from each server every night. Servers cannot write to or delete from it, so a break-in on one cannot wipe your copies.
- Encrypted and private. Reached only over a VPN, with a password vault for the keys and a recovery file to keep safe elsewhere.
- A simple web panel. Sources, schedules, size limits, alerts and a daily summary in one place.
- Updates itself from signed releases, and puts the old version back if something goes wrong.
Get started
Run this on the machine that will hold the backups (Debian or Ubuntu, as root):
curl -fsSL https://get.libreportal.org/librebackup | bash
The installer checks the release's signature before it installs anything. Then follow the install guide and connect your first LibrePortal server.

Contributing and reporting problems
Found a bug or have an idea? Open an issue. Please never post passwords, keys, passphrases or other secrets in an issue; describe the problem and we will say what to share. Security problems: use the report a bug page rather than a public issue. Pull requests are welcome.
